“Our goal in creating the diner was to provide quality family-friendly American comfort foods reinvigorated with fresh local ingredients served in a fun and convenient setting. The diner will create 30 full time and over 50 part time jobs.

Chef douglas katz will acquire the former dottie's diner on lee road in Cleveland heights!

January 14, 2013, 12:00 AM

Douglas Katz chef/owner of fire food and drink will acquire the property located at 1975 Lee Road, in Cleveland Heights, formerly known as Dottie’s Diner.“I was looking for a space to build a commissary kitchen for our growing catering business when I learned that the diner was available,” Doug explained. “I fell in love with that space in 2002 when Steve Presser brought the cars to Cleveland and so beautifully restored them,” he said.

Dottie’s was created from two separate stainless steel dining cars purchased in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Presser worked with diner historian and “restorationist,” Steve Harwin on a lengthy and costly rehab which brought the cars back to their original splendor. (Subsequent owners sadly altered Presser’s restoration) In addition to a sizable kitchen, the site offers the opportunity to pursue new projects which Katz and his team have been considering. “Our first priority right now is to rebuild and utilize the kitchen for our catering operations. Needless to say though, we’re very excited about what lies ahead,” he commented.

Lee Road itself is an interesting destination of late. New business like BottleHouse Brewery, SweetieFry, The Wine Spot and New Heights Grill have recently opened and are adding life and excitement back to the area. “I’m thrilled to own this space,” Katz remarked. “It offers so many possibilities for our business. In addition, I feel our shop can be yet another piece in the burgeoning neighborhood redevelopment already underway. Cleveland Heights is a fantastic community I’m excited for our business to become a part of it, Katz said.”

Bar Car

The Bar Car at the Katz Club was the result of one question, what is our kind of bar? It had to be a sleek, cozy, hand crafted, Cary Grant gibson in a wifi world kind of place. A Raymond Chandler mahogany bar top mystery with ice tinking in a highball glass sort of joint. Traditional and familiar, but worlds away from anything that happened before five o'clock.
